The City of Bellevue has been selected to be showcased in the International City/County Management Association's newly published book, "What Works: How Local Governments Have Made the Leap from Measurement to Management." Written by the staff of ICMA's Center for Performance Measurement, this new release is packed with 75 real-life case studies illustrating how performance measurement promotes positive change in 15 different service areas in local government. These case studies are not available from any other resource.
The book features Bellevue Police Department's high level of contact quality with its residents. Eighty-six percent of Bellevue residents rated contact with the police as good to excellent, compared to other cities. The mean and median values of all reporting jurisdictions were 80 percent and 79 percent, respectively.
Other case studies illustrate how a featured community:
Saves $20,000 by certifying fleet technicians and implementing other cost-saving fleet management practices
Will save more than $300,000 by load-shedding electricity usage
Uses managed competition between city refuse collection staff and private haulers to boost customer satisfaction among refuse and recycling customers
Reduces the average police vehicle accident rate by 10 percent
Evaluates and reduces code enforcement cycle time by more than half using performance measurement
Reduces commercial property policy expenditures by $103,000
And much, much more.
"What Works: How Local Governments Have Made the Leap from Measurement to Management" will be available to ship by the end of September through the ICMA.
