Fire raged through a Lake Hills-area house Wednesday afternoon, destroying the main floor. The main floor and the daylight basement in the house were rented out as separate units, but neither renter was home when the fire started. Firefighters were still investigating the cause late Wednesday.
Neighbors called the fire department at 4:25 p.m. and reported that the home, on the 15600 block of Southeast 11th Street, was engulfed in flames. By the time fire crews were able to put out the fire, the main floor was completely damaged.
A basement unit was spared except for smoke and water damage. The man renting the main-floor unit said his dog and cat were missing. Firefighters were unable to locate them during their initial interior check.
A total of four fire engines, two ladder trucks, a medic unit and two aid cars responded to the fire. Bellevue fire investigators were on the scene and conducted an investigation late into the night.
There was no initial damage estimate or preliminary cause to report.
