The Metropolitan King County Council on Monday unanimously confirmed the appointment of Bellevue City Councilwoman Claudia Balducci to the Sound Transit Board of Directors.
County Executive Dow Constantine appointed Balducci to the Sound Transit Board last week, noting that her participation will be important as the board makes decisions on the East Link light rail alignment through Bellevue in the coming months.
East Link is part the Sound Transit 2 plan approved by voters in November 2008. East Link will extend light rail from Seattle, across Lake Washington on Interstate 90, through Bellevue and on to the Overlake Transit Center in Redmond.
"I am honored and grateful for this opportunity to serve our region and Eastside communities as a member of the Sound Transit Board," Balducci said. "Having a representative from Bellevue on the board will help ensure we continue to advance this important extension of light rail."
Balducci said she will work hard to serve the region "with rail and bus solutions that help us achieve our shared values -- a high quality of life, job growth and economic prosperity."
Bellevue Mayor Don Davidson applauded Constantine's decision to appoint Balducci to the board.
"We are extremely pleased with the appointment and congratulate Claudia," Davidson said. "Claudia's leadership in recent years on transportation issues will prove invaluable for Bellevue as well as the Eastside region as a whole as we move towards making light rail a reality."
The 18-member Sound Transit Board is made up of elected officials from the region, plus the Secretary of the state Department of Transportation.
Regular board meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. They take place in the Ruth Fisher Board Room at Union Station, 401 S. Jackson St, Seattle.
Councilwoman Balducci may be contacted via e-mail at email@example.com.
