On March 26, 2011, Bellevue Police Chief Linda Pillo, accompanied by accreditation managers, Major Mike Johnson, and Captain Pat Spak travelled to the CALEA conference in Bethesda, Maryland where the Bellevue Police Department successfully achieved international re-accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
Initially accredited in 2005, the Bellevue Police Department (BPD) continues to demonstrate a commitment to professional standards in policy and practice, and a continuous process of thorough, agency-wide self-evaluation ensuring that we follow best practices in law enforcement.
Notably, and for the first time, BPD was selected as a CALEA Flagship Agency. The Flagship Agency status is awarded to only a small percentage of law enforcement agencies and represents an extraordinary example of excellence in public safety.
This status serves to provide other agencies seeking accreditation with examples of “best practices” on how to address compliance, policy development, file maintenance, and other issues relating to the accreditation process. The Flagship Agency designation is effective for the duration of the current 3-year award period.
This prestigious award demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest quality of law enforcement, community education and support services possible.
