To accommodate the East Link light rail line and new development in the Bel-Red area along this corridor, 124th Avenue will be widened between Northeast 14th Street and Northup Way. This project will be designed to coordinate with Sound Transit's East Link project and schedule, which calls for the East Link guide-way to cross below 124th Avenue. As a result, the roadway will be raised between Northeast 14th Street and Northeast 18th Street and re-graded between Northeast 18th Street and Northup Way.
Some of the major improvements include: a five-lane roadway, sidewalk or multipurpose pathway, landscape planters, retaining walls, traffic signals, street lighting, and other urban design elements, consistent with the city’s overall Bel-Red area plan. This project will also address the connection of open-space trails along the West Tributary and ensure forward compatibility with future private development and other regional projects in the area.
ScheduleThe design for 124th Avenue Northeast between Northeast 14th Street and Northup Way will be completed in spring 2014. The section from Northeast 14th Street and Northeast 18th Street is scheduled for right of way acquisition in 2014.
The city is continuing to coordinate the timing of construction for this project, and other projects in the area, with the timing of Sound Transit’s East Link project in the area.
