120th Avenue Northeast Widening Stage 1
The 120th Avenue Northeast (Stage 1) project is part of the Mobility & Infrastructure Initiative (M&II). Combined with the improvements on Northeast Eighth, Sixth and Fourth streets, widening 120th Avenue Northeast is intended to support planned growth and redevelopment in the Bel-Red and Wilburton areas and increase connectivity between downtown, the Bel-Red corridor and the Overlake area.
The 120th Avenue Northeast (Stage 1) project will widen 120th Avenue Northeast to five lanes, including two travel lanes in each direction with a center turn lane and turn pockets, beginning at the 300 block and extending just south of Northeast 8th Street. The project will improve, or install where missing, bike lanes, curb, gutter and sidewalk on both sides, a traffic signal at the Northeast Sixth Street intersection, illumination, landscaping, irrigation, storm drainage and detention. The following are the plans for the project:
Construction began in Summer 2013 and will wrap up in 2014. Stage 2 will begin shortly thereafter and will continue the improvements to the north.
