Workshop to help nonprofits recruit, manage volunteers

Residents who give freely of their time and talents are vital to the success of local nonprofit agencies. To help these organizations find and effectively manage good volunteers, Bellevue is sponsoring a "Volunteer Manager's Summit" on Thursday, Jan. 14.

The Summit, at First Presbyterian Church, 1717 Bellevue Way NE, can make nonprofits and other organizations from throughout the area better volunteer recruiters and offer them opportunities to network as well.

In addition to volunteer recruitment, sessions will cover working with the media and building community partnerships. The United Way of King County will host a session "Getting to Know Your Local Volunteer Center."

The conference, presented with support from First Presbyterian Church, Puget Sound Energy and the City of Sammamish, will also include brown-bag lunch affinity groups, where participants can meet and chat with others working in their areas of service, as well as a best practices forum, where agency successes will be discussed and strategies shared.

There is no fee for the event, but agencies must RSVP (to Volunteer@BellevueWa.Gov) to attend. Agency representatives should bring lunch, best practices to share, program materials for the resource table and business cards for networking.
