FREEWAY TRAFFIC INFORMATION: The state Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has several projects under way that can affect traffic in Bellevue at any given time. For the most up-to-date information on construction activity on Interstate 405, visit WSDOT's I-405 Construction Update webpage; for information about work on I-90, another webpage is provided; and for current information on work along SR 520, a separate webpage is provided. WSDOT work currently under way in Bellevue (with a link to project webpages) includes:
SR 520 overpass at 108th Avenue Northeast: Starting Fri., May 17 through Sun., May 20, crews will close the intersection of Northup Way and 108th Avenue Northeast for drainage installation across the roadway and removal of trees to begin wall construction at the northeast corner of the intersection. Trees will also be removed along Northup Way, to the east, and along 108th Avenue Northeast, to the north.
BELLEVUE CITY TRAFFIC INFORMATION (NOTE: For information on road closures related to ice, snow or flooding, please see the city’s Extreme Weather Response page):
UPDATED - Lane Closures: Coal Creek Parkway between Forest Drive and SE 60th Street: Construction of the bridge is moving ahead. A single lane on Coal Creek Parkway (map) will be closed Mon., May 20, and a long-term two-lane closure will start Tue. night, May 21, on the west half of the roadway between Forest Drive and Southeast 60th Street. One lane will continue to be open in each direction. The closure will remain in effect 24 hours a day as the west half of the bridge is constructed until the end of November 2013 when Phase 1 of construction will be completed. Traffic delays and congestion are expected, especially during morning and evening commutes, and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes. A second phase of construction will take place in 2014, from mid-April through September.
Lane Closures: 120th Avenue NE, NE 4th Street to NE 8th Street: Franchise utility crews will be working 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mon.-Fri., with intermittent lane closures for the next couple of weeks. Major construction will begin May 28.
NEW - Northup Way, 156th Avenue NE to 164th Avenue NE: Survey crews will be working in roadway the week of May 20 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in preparation for the sidewalk project starting immediately after. No lane closures are expected next week but drivers should be careful in the work zone.
Access Change: Northbound Bellevue Way to westbound SR 520: Drivers from northbound Bellevue Way will no longer have access to westbound SR 520 via the loop ramp. Drivers will be detoured to 108th Ave NE on Northup Way. Access will be restored next year, but in the meantime signs will direct drivers to the westbound on-ramp at 108th Ave NE.
Southbound Detour: West Lk. Sammamish Parkway SE, I-90 roundabout to SE 34th Street: A detour of all southbound vehicular traffic from 18000 block (the French Immersion School) to SE 34th Street began Tues., March 19 and will last approximately 8 months. The detour redirects traffic onto SE 34th Street. Northbound traffic is permitted but drivers should expect significant delays. See the video about the southbound detour. Using alternate routes is strongly recommended.
Commercial development and private utility work: Drivers and pedestrians should anticipate periodic lane and/or sidewalk closures and delays at these locations:
o NEW - 110th Avenue NE, NE 2nd Place to NE 3rd Place (Marriott Hotel): Truck traffic and hauling on 111th between NE 2nd Pl. and NE 3rd Pl. The sidewalk on 110th Ave NE is open to the public.
