The state Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is in the process of preparing an environmental impact statement (EIS) for the replacement of the State Route 520 Bridge and improvements to the 520 freeway corridor. An EIS provides comprehensive information about a project's purpose and need, proposed plans and potential environmental effects in areas such as wetlands and wildlife, noise and future traffic operations.
Creating an EIS is required as part of the National Environmental Protection Act and the State Environmental Protection Act. Before an EIS can become final, it must be released in draft form for the public to review, comment on and ask questions about. Visit WSDOT's "environmental process" web page to view the latest reports. A separate web page on project costs, funding and tolling provides additional information.
