SEATTLE -- The North/East Cities municipal jail planning group announced today its intent to move forward with environmental review and public comment of six potential sites for a new regional misdemeanant jail, including working with King County to evaluate the development of an annex to the county jail in downtown Seattle.
This is part of an ongoing, comprehensive process as the cities plan for a single 640-bed municipal jail facility to replace the jail beds they are losing in King County jails when their contract with the county ends. The NEC is composed of 23 cities, including Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Seattle and Shoreline.
A public forum focused on the Bellevue site is set for Monday, Dec. 15, 6 to 9 p.m. on Level 4, Rooms 404 and 405 of the Meydenbauer Center, located at 11100 N.E. Sixth St.
The NEC news release has the details.
