American Idol, move over

It seems like everyone loves a talent competition these days. In August, youth and adults with developmental disabilities took turns in the spotlight at the Highland Community Center for "Highland Has Great Talent."

"I was kind of nervous ... but not really," said Sarah Jones, who played Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C Sharp Minor" on piano. "I was enjoying myself."

The Highland talent show is one of several events featured in this month's "It's Your City" television show.

Other stories include:

  • Well-Kept: a teen employment opportunity that teaches environmental stewardship;
  • Electric Vehicles: how the City of Bellevue is preparing for mass-produced electric cars;
  • India Day: a celebration of the culture of one of Bellevue's largest minorities; and
  • Fish Monitoring: Utilities staff wade into Bellevue streams to monitor fish populations.
