Police seeking witness to DUI collision

The Bellevue Police Department is seeking a possible witness to a New Years Eve traffic accident where the driver of the vehicle was seriously injured.

Through the investigation of the accident, investigators discovered surveillance video that indicates a beige Toyota or Honda was present when the crash occurred. Witnesses reported this vehicle briefly slowed as the Jeep crashed but then continued to drive eastbound on N.E. 8th Street.

This Toyota/Honda would have seen the Jeep driving prior to the crash and the actual crash. Investigators would like to speak to the driver and any passengers in the Toyota/Honda. Anyone with information should call 425-452-6940.

On 12-31-10 at 1:15 A.M., Bellevue Police and Bellevue Fire personnel responded to a one car collision in the 13900 block of N.E. 8th Street. Upon arrival, police found a 21 year old male badly injured inside a Jeep Cherokee.

The witness information and evidence shows that the Jeep was travelling eastbound on N.E. 8th approaching the light at 140th Avenue N.E. The Jeep left the road and stuck a cement light pole then struck a tree. The light pole was knocked to the ground as a result of the collision.

The lone male occupant was rescued from the damaged Jeep and transported to Overlake Hospital with obvious head injuries and later transferred to Harborview Medical Center. The driver of the Jeep is improving from his injuries but is still unable to police about what led up to the accident. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the collision.

Make good decisions if you drink alcohol. Use a designated driver or taxi.
