Experienced Police Positions
The Bellevue Police Department accepts Experienced Lateral Police Officer applications continuously to maintain a list of qualified applicants to hire from. We have traditionally filled 50% of vacancies with experienced lateral officers. Lateral officer’s prior experience may be recognized and factoring into an elevated starting pay rate. Depending on prior service, it is possible to obtain the highest pay step after successful completion of the one year probationary period. Out of state police officers will also need to successfully pass the Washington State Criminal Justice Commission 80 hour Equivalency Academy.
All applicants are required to pass a physical agility test, a general aptitude written test, and a video based scenario test through http://www.nationaltestingnetwork.com/. Based upon the results of National Testing Network scores, applicants will be ranked and selected for an oral board interview. Based on the oral board interview scores, lateral applicants are placed on an Experienced Lateral Civil Service eligibility list. Applicants who are ranked high on the civil service eligibility list will be selected to undergo a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation. Applicants who successfully pass the pre-employment background investigation may receive a conditional offer of employment. These applicants will then have to pass a full medical exam, a psychological evaluation, and a polygraph examination before employment.
