Parks & Community Services
The Parks & Community Services Department earned accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) in 2005, and was reaccredited in 2010. CAPRA accreditation assures policy-makers and residents that a department has been independently evaluated against established benchmarks and delivers a high level of quality.
Accreditation is based on an agency’s compliance with the 144 standards for national accreditation. An agency must comply with all 36 fundamental standards, and at least 85 percent of the remaining 108 standards (92).
CAPRA accreditation is on a five-year cycle. For accreditation, agencies submit self-assessments and receive on-site visitations from CAPRA evaluators. In the years between accreditations, agencies must submit annual reports that detail their continued compliance with accreditation standards.
