You won't have to go to a theater to see modern dance this summer. Dancers with Bellevue's acornDance will bring the art to you, with improv performances at Downtown Park Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
From July 21 through Aug. 13, dancers will romp around the park, combining improvised and choreographed movement. For "PARKDance" the dancers will perform subtle gestures and bold, full-bodied leaps. Each week the performers will create new dance as they add dancers, change locations in the park and reinvent their score.
This is the second year acornDance is bringing "Dance on Common Ground," a summer series of free, site-specific, contemporary dance performances, to Downtown Park. The performances will happen every Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., rain or shine. Outdoor movies, also on Tuesdays, make the park a cultural mecca this summer.
Free Dance Workshops If the performers at the park tempt your inner dancer to come out, acornDance offers free classes to adults and children on the following dates (No experience is necessary):
Preregistration is required. For more information and to register, contact Parks & Community Services at 425-452-6885 or register online.
PARKDance is presented as a "site-specific art happening," with support from 4Culture, the Bellevue Arts Commission and Bellevue Parks & Community Services.
