BELLEVUE – Bellevue firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire in the office cabana at a Newport Hills apartment complex Monday afternoon. The cabana building at the Newporter Apartments, on the 5900 block of 119th Avenue Southeast, sustained about $150,000 damage. The mechanical room was destroyed.
Around 2:22 p.m., an employee in the office noticed smoke coming from a mechanical room, which services a Jacuzzi and outdoor pool. She called 911 and evacuated the building. Bus service was briefly affected along Southeast 60th Street and 119th Avenue Southeast due to fire apparatus and fire hoses blocking the roadway.
The cabana building was not connected to any of the apartments at the complex, so no residents were displaced.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday afternoon.
