2011 Forums - Community Dialogues on Building Vibrant and Connected Communities
The first Neighborhood Forum, on April 6, brought New York author and journalist Peter Lovenheim to Bellevue to inspire public discussion with his firsthand account of “building community on an American street, one sleepover at a time.” Discussion groups came up with a wealth of ideas for creating stronger personal connections within Bellevue neighborhoods. The second Neighborhood Forum on May 12 continued the discussion of community connections, focusing on three population groups – older residents, culturally diverse residents and young people. Discussion groups generated ideas for engagement of these three populations. Video of second forum
Both forums were made possible by generous donations from three local businesses – Chipotle Mexican Grill, The French Bakery and Vovito Caffe and Gelato – and seven neighborhood associations – Horizon Crest Community Association, Horizon Heights Community Association, Newport Hills Community Club, Somerset Community Association, Sunset Community Association, Surrey Downs Community Club and Whispering Heights and Collingwood Community Association.
Other Outreach educational programs and events include workshops, classes, community meetings and gatherings geared to the interests of neighborhoods. Call, or watch the Neighborhood News newsletter for information about upcoming events.
