Bellevue residents are invited to celebrate community projects at a free picnic dinner and concert on the lawn at City Hall, Thursday, July 23, 6 to 8 p.m. Whole Foods Market Bellevue will supply the food and the blues band Two Scoops Combo will perform for the city event.
In June, the city asked neighborhood groups, businesses and churches to find ways to help the growing number of residents in need during the recession. Through the new Neighbor Link program, the city pledged support and resources for service projects and community-building efforts.
In addition to food and entertainment, the evening will feature a brief recognition of the groups and organizations that have launched projects this summer. In addition to more than a dozen food drives, groups pursued new ideas, including a dinner for tent city residents, fund-raising jazz concerts, a senior safety summit, a carnival and a picnic for food bank recipients. Whole Foods will present awards for projects that are especially creative and/or beneficial.
Bellevue residents are encouraged to bring the family and to bring a bag of food for Hopelink.
