The city is extending Northeast Fourth Street from 116th Avenue Northeast, where it currently terminates, to 120th Avenue Northeast. Phase 1 extends Fourth to the Eastide Rail Corridor; Phase 2 will extend the street all the way to 120th Avenue.
The extension of Northeast Fourth, part of the Wilburton Connections effort, is designed to work in conjunction with two other road projects (120th Avenue Northeast widening and Northeast Sixth Street extension) to improve mobility between downtown, the Bel-Red corridor and the Overlake area.
Project DescriptionThis new segment of Northeast Fourth Street will be a five-lane arterial, with two travel lanes in each direction and a center turn lane where needed, with bike lanes and sidewalks on each side and a new signalized intersection at the 120th Avenue intersection.
The project will allow a future pedestrian-bike trail or transit to use the railroad corridor. When completed, the new roadway section is projected to relieve congestion at nearby intersections, improve travel times and provide alternatives for vehicles, transit, freight, pedestrians and bicycles.
Project Schedule Design is at 60-percent level. The beginning of construction is tentatively scheduled for fall 2014, pending right of way acquisition. The entire roadway is anticipated to be open to traffic in fall of 2015.
