The state Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close the Northeast 12th Street Bridge over Interstate 405, between 112th and 116th avenues Northeast, nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Thursday, as part of construction work for the I-405 Bellevue Braids project.
The closure begins tonight, Feb. 16, and will last two to three weeks. During the closures, crews from the contractor, Guy F. Atkinson Construction LLC, will install temporary lighting and remove the curb. Drivers should use alternate east-west routes, such as the Northeast 10th Street Bridge two blocks south of Northeast 12th Street.
Longer term, after the full nighttime bridge closures are complete, crews will need to reduce the existing four lane bridge to two lanes. That lane restriction will remain in effect for two years while crews build a new bridge immediately south of the existing one.
The Bellevue Braids project will include construction of new multi-level "braided" ramps to separate vehicles entering and exiting northbound I-405 between Northeast Eighth Street and SR 520 in Bellevue. Also part of the project will be a new bypass lane for I-405 traffic headed eastbound to SR 520. A new ramp from the Northeast 10th Street overpass will give drivers direct access to SR 520 from downtown Bellevue.
