Meydenbauer Beach Park was closed to swimming Wednesday because a private company hired by neighboring properties applied an aquatic herbicide in the area to control milfoil. The beach will be open for swimming again at its regular time (noon) Thursday.

Lifeguards were notifying the public of the situation and referring customers to other beach parks. Signs are posted. 

Questions can be directed to the company applying the herbicide, Northwest Aquatic Eco-systems (360-357-3285) or the state Department of Ecology (360-407-6300), which granted the permit for the herbicide application.
