Bellevue's medical district is nearing a milestone with the anticipated completion in July of Group Health Cooperative's new medical center just east of Interstate 405. The Overlake Hospital Medical Center opened its South Tower nearby in September. 

Group Health's 190,000 square-foot medical center will be the largest multispecialty center in East King County, with 125 physicians representing more than 25 specialty services. Group Health physicians, surgeons and midwifes will provide inpatient care at Overlake.

Overlake's 200,000 square-foot South Tower houses a new emergency and trauma center and additional operating rooms and private patient rooms.

The city, in partnership with the state Department of Transportation, is building a new section of Northeast 10th Street that will cross over I-405, connecting the downtown area with the hospital district.
