Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Seattle and Shoreline have agreed to a joint environmental review process of the sites the North/East Cities are considering as possible locations for a new municipal jail. The potential jail site in Bellevue is 555 116th Ave. NE.
The agreement is only about the process for the joint environmental impact statement (EIS) that will evaluate the environmental impacts of potential sites among the five cities. The agreement makes no commitments on the location of a new jail (that will be decided separately, and the EIS process will aid the decision).
Bellevue residents are invited to submit comments and questions about the potential jail sites in the draft EIS, both in an online form and at an EIS scoping meeting set for Thursday, Jan. 15, 6 p.m. at the Meydenbauer Center, 11100 NE Sixth St., Rooms 404 and 405.
North/East Cities Municipal Jail Planning has all of the details about the process.
