The Fire Department is accredited by the Center for Public Safety Excellence. The department has maintained continuous accreditation since 1998 and was recently re-accredited through 2013. Accreditation requires demonstrated proficiency and extensive preparation, along with a thorough evaluation by independent assessors, and signifies that the department conforms to the highest professional standards.

The department maintains three documents that support accreditation. Two of those documnents, our Strategic Plan and Standard of Coverage reports are reviewed and updated periodically to ensure compliance with the accreditation standards.

The department also maintains a Class 2 rating from the Washington State Survey and Rating Bureau. This rating system used throughout the state is generally considered more rigorous than the more common ISO rating used throughout the country. The Class 2 rating places Bellevue in the top 1 percent of the 46,699 rated departments in the U.S. and among the top three departments in state.
