Mike Creighton, a former two-term council member, was chosen Monday by the Bellevue City Council to fill the temporary vacancy on the council.
The vacancy was created earlier this month when Councilman Phil Noble died unexpectedly June 21. Noble's term would have run through December 2011.
The council seat will be on the November ballot. If Creighton wants to run for election to that council seat this fall, he will have to file in August.
Creighton, a former financial services and insurance executive, has been active in Bellevue civic affairs for many years. He served eight years on the school board, including two as president.
He was first elected to the council in 1996, and in 1998 was elected mayor by his fellow council members. In 2000 he was re-elected to the council.
