The City Council is accepting applications from individuals interested in serving out the term of Councilwoman Connie Marshall. Applications must be delivered to the City Clerk by 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4. 

Marshall, saying she had accomplished what she had hoped to as a council member, stepped down on Jan. 22. Marshall's third term runs until Bellevue's next general election, in November 2009.

Complete information on how to apply for the position can be found on the Public Notice. State law requires that a council member be a resident of Bellevue for at least a year and a registered voter at the time of application.

Next steps in the selection process will be identified after determining the number of applications received.

Bellevue has seven City Council members elected at-large by voters for four-year terms. A mayor and deputy mayor are elected by the council members to serve two-year terms.

The City Council is responsible for determining city policy. It selects a City Manager, who oversees day-to-day operations and supervises department directors.
