In February of 2007, the Bellevue City Council committed to the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. As a result, the city is committed to reducing citywide greenhouse gas emissions to 7 percent below 1990 levels by 2012. This is a tremendous challenge and opportunity.

In striving to minimize the environmental impacts of our collective actions, residents, businesses and government will become more resource-efficient, save money and unveil a multitude of new opportunities for sustainable economic development.

Trees are part of the Bellevue's downtown skyline.

With funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the city is reducing costs and carbon dioxide emissions. In October 2009, the city was awarded $1.2 million in Energy Efficiency and Conservation block grants issued by the Department of Energy. Read more about the projects under What the City is Doing.
