Bellevue City Councilman John Chelminiak is expected to be discharged from Harborview Medical Center today after three weeks of surgeries and other treatment for injuries he sustained when attacked by a bear on Sept. 17.
He looked forward to returning home. While he is not in a condition to attend tonight's council meeting, he expects to soon participate in meetings from his home, via teleconference.
On Oct. 6, Chelminiak participated in a television interview, and recounted his harrowing experience with a black bear near his cabin in eastern Washington.
"I heard the brush on the side of the road rustle and the next thing I heard was the exhale of the bear," Chelminak said, recounting his ordeal. "And in a split second I saw the bear coming and she just launched right into me."
See video of Chelminiak's news conference obtained from KOMO TV. A separate segment features an interview with Dr. Matt Klein.
