More commuters taking the bus

Aided by websites that present travel alternatives, more and more Bellevue commuters are taking the bus or joining van pools instead of driving solo to work.

The King County Transportation Department reports a 30 percent increase in Eastside bus trips over the past eight years, as well as an increase in van pools, car pools and use of park-and-ride lots.

In Motion, a website cosponsored by Bellevue and King County Metro, is credited with helping commuters find ways to get to work without driving. With King County Metro and the Downtown Bellevue Association, the city recently launched Choose Your Way Bellevue, another site facilitating the hunt for a better way to work.

King County's Transportation Today online newsletter offers details about the increase in the popularity of alternatives to solo driving on the Eastside.
