Annexation by Petition
The direct petition method of annexation is being used for the South Bellevue annexation. In this type of annexation, a sufficient number of property owners sign and submit petitions to the city stating their agreement to annex. It is a two-step process. At each of the two steps, the City Council maintains its oversight and decision-making roles. The council will decide the ultimate annexation configuration and affirm the conditions for annexation.
Petition to annex process underway
Now underway, property owners representing a majority of the assessed value in each annexation area sign petitions supporting a "Direct Petition to Annex." You must submit the original, signed petition to the city for it to be counted, but you may submit it at any time. Hand-deliver petitions to City Hall or to the South Bellevue Community Center or mail them to planner Nicholas Matz (address in right column).
Petition Campaigns for Each Area
Each of the unincorporated communities has its own annexation direct-petition process. City staff will work with groups active in these areas to submit the separate petitions in a coordinated manner, while assuming that each area independently satisfies the petition requirements.
