An unattended candle left near a mattress started a fire that damaged a Bridle Trails home Tuesday evening.
At 6:10 p.m., the owner of the two-story residence in the 4100 block of 140th Avenue Northeast called 911 to report a fire in a downstairs bedroom. Fire units arrived in less than six minutes to find the home filled with smoke.
Firefighters from Bellevue and Redmond worked to quickly remove a smoldering mattress and box spring from the home. The home had working smoke detectors and sustained moderate smoke damage.
The residents are working with their insurance company to find temporary housing during repairs. No estimate of the damage was made. No injuries were reported.
