A test of the national emergency alert system will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Similar to local EAS tests that are already conducted frequently, the nationwide test will involve broadcast radio and television stations, cable television, satellite radio and television services and wireline video service providers.
The public will hear a message indicating that "This is a test." The 30-second audio message will be the same for both radio and television.
FEMA will use the test to determine the reliability of the system. The Office of Emergency Management offers helpful information on how to prepare for an emergency.
