Fire destroys Enatai house

A fire destroyed a two-story house in the Enatai neighborhood early Sunday. In the first call to emergency dispatchers, a neighbor said the entire house was ablaze, and parts of the roof and second floor had collapsed by the time Bellevue and Mercer Island fire crews arrived.

Several callers reported seeing large amounts of fire and smoke and hearing explosions in the house on the 3200 block of 112th Avenue Southeast around 1 a.m. Firefighters had the blaze under control in 38 minutes, but could not safely enter the damaged structure. The homeowners were out of the country. Firefighters do not know if anyone was in the house during the fire.

Fire and police investigators were on the scene Sunday to determine the fire's origin and cause. Investigators requested a structural engineer to determine how best to investigate the interior of the home.

The home was damaged beyond repair. No estimate of damage has been made.
