A 60-year-old Mercer Island man seriously injured in a collision on Bellevue Way on May 23 died from his injuries Saturday. The County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release the man's name this afternoon.
On the afternoon of May 23, the man drove his sedan onto Bellevue Way Southeast out of the Sweyolocken boat ramp, possibly trying to make a left turn. A northbound flatbed truck hit the car, striking the driver's side. The driver of the sedan suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center. The driver of the flatbed truck was not injured.
Traffic in both directions on Bellevue Way was closed for several hours while the traffic investigators reviewed the scene. The investigation is not complete yet, but there were no indications of alcohol or drugs involved in the collision, and no charges are pending. This is the second fatal collision in Bellevue this year.
