The City of Bellevue has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of prominent local civil rights leader Roberto Maestas.
Maestras, co-founder and executive director of El Centro de la Raza, a center for the area's Latino community, died this morning at the University of Washington Medical Center. He was 72.
"Maestas was a giant in the civil rights arena," Deputy Mayor Conrad Lee said. "He was a major inspiration for all those seeking fairness and justice for those in need."
