The Bellevue Downtown Association has launched the fourth annual Walk Downtown Bellevue summer challenge. The 10-week campaign runs June 22 to September 2 and promotes the walkability of downtown by encouraging both residents and workers to explore the city, reduce intra-downtown car trips, and establish healthy habits.
This year's challenge is to walk 10,000 steps a day for 10 weeks. The first 1,000 Walk Downtown Bellevue participants will receive a free starter kit, including a pedometer, a walking map and a reusable shopping bag.
"Walk Downtown Bellevue is a fun and active cause for the entire downtown community to rally behind," said Mike Ogliore, events director for the BDA. The City of Bellevue is a cosponsor.
Walk, Track and Win! Participants can track their steps and get walking tips at the BDA. The campaign's overall step count will be announced at the Live at Lunch Concert on Sept. 2. The "Walk Downtown Bellevue Prize Patrol" will hand out prizes to walkers who show their pedometer at select Live at Lunch concerts.
