Driver cleared in vehicle-pedestrian accident

BELLEVUE – Bellevue Police have determined that the driver of a van that struck two Bellevue High School girls crossing a street on Sept. 19 was not in violation of traffic law. Following an investigation, Police found that both girls crossed Bellevue Way Southeast while the traffic light for them was red.

The driver of the van, a 33-year-old Seattle man, had the right of way with the green light, and there was no indication from evidence or witnesses that he was speeding. Both students were transported to Harborview Medical Center, treated and later released.

The police investigation was based on statements from the students, the driver, witnesses at the scene and physical evidence.
