City Hall screening of adoption documentary

The public is invited to a free screening of "Closure," a powerful documentary about the effects of transracial adoption and one woman's emotional search for her birth parents.

The film, to be shown July 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at City Hall, 450 110th Ave. NE, in the Council Chambers, is about Angela Tucker, an African-American woman who was raised by a white couple in a large family in Washington state.

She was adopted at the age of one from foster care in Tennessee, under the terms of a closed adoption. As Tucker grew older it became apparent that the unanswered questions about her birth story would continue to haunt her if she did not attempt to find some answers. Directed, filmed and edited by her husband Bryan Tucker, this 76-minute documentary follows Angela for two years during the search for her birth family.

The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Angela and Bryan. It is one in a series of movies presented by the city's Diversity program that focus on race, culture and social justice issues. Though the event is free, reservations are strongly recommended. movie trailer
