Training the next generation of firefighters

Local fire departments need to know whether recruits can rush into a smoke-filled building while wearing 70 pounds of protective gear and hauling a heavy hose -- before they hire them. Recruits do stuff like that and more at Bellevue's Fire Academy.

The April edition of Lake to Lake, a monthly news show produced by Bellevue Television, takes viewers inside the academy for a look at the training. The show can be viewed on the city's YouTube channel, on TV on channel 21 or streamed any time from Bellevue TV. Other segments on this month's show include:

  • A new zip line at Eastgate Park;
  • MyBellevue, a new mobile app; and
  • Pet license canvassing.

"Fire academy is hard! Hand me that water bottle, will ya?"
