SR 520: I-5 to Medina: Floating Bridge and Landings
The SR 520 floating bridge, built in the early 1960s, is vulnerable to wind storms and earthquakes and needs to be replaced. Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) replacing the span with a one that can better withstand earthquakes and storms. The City of Bellevue and other Eastside cities have endorsed a six-lane alternative, which would include a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction.
Construction of floating bridge began in 2012. The new floating bridge will open to drivers in 2014.
