Fire investigators were unable to determine what started a fire Wednesday afternoon in the Tam O'Shanter neighborhood. No injuries were reported.
At 11:36 a.m., on Wednesday, residents called 9-1-1 to report black smoke coming from their garage in the 17000 block of Northeast 13th Street.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage of the two-story home. It took firefighters 24 minutes to control the fire.
The home was equipped with working smoke detectors. The home is insured and the occupants, a family of three, are staying with neighbors. Fire damage was confined to the garage, with moderate smoke damage throughout the home causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.
Although this was the third fire since August in Tam O'Shanter, foul play is not suspected in any of the blazes. The Bellevue Fire Department would like to remind residents to check their smoke detectors. In addition, if a fire occurs in your home, evacuate first, and then call 9-1-1.
