Firefighters from Bellevue, Eastside Fire & Rescue, Duvall Fire and the Forest Service worked for nearly two hours to contain a fire in the forest near the Newcastle Golf Club Tuesday evening. Bellevue firefighters remained on scene through the night to extinguish fire hiding among tree roots and undergrowth.
At 5:54 p.m., a private aircraft pilot notified Renton air traffic control of the fire. Bellevue firefighters arrived at the 8300 block of 154th Avenue Southeast to find a one-and-a-half-acre fire one quarter mile into the Cougar Mountain Park near Marshall's Hill Trail. The state Department of Natural Resources was on scene Wednesday morning to assess the damage to the forest. A King County fire investigator looked into the cause and origin of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
