Last Saturday, the Bellevue Police Department collected 331.5 pounds of controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter medications -- no questions asked.
The successful event was a partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as part of the nationwide prescription drug "Take-Back" initiative.
The Bellevue Police Department staffed three separate locations and collected 10 boxes of unwanted medications. In 2011, 470 pounds were collected.
"The next collection will be later this year and should break last year's totals," commented Police public information officer Carla Iafrate. "Citizens are really taking advantage of the opportunity to clean out unwanted drugs."
The DEA has more information on how to safely dispose of unwanted drugs.
