Bellevue Police volunteers Dean and Marlene Snyder were among this year's recipients of the Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Service Award. The award ceremony was held on Monday at the Governor's Mansion in Olympia. This award is presented by the Washington State Commission for National and Volunteer Service to volunteers affiliated with a registered Citizen Corps Council or program, or who support emergency management or first responders. It recognizes outstanding volunteers who effect real change in their communities through volunteer service. Chief Linda Pillo said, "On behalf of the police department, Dean and Marlene's community service efforts have touched so many lives in a positive way.  Their volunteerism is appreciated!"

The husband and wife team both volunteer at the Bellevue Community Police Station in Factoria. Dean was one of the first volunteers when the station opened in 1994, and Marlene joined the program in the early part of 1995. Together they have served more than 6,800 hours.

They each work their own shift at the front desk, answering phone calls and assisting citizens who come into the station seeking help with police related issues. They also assist with community outreach events like the Child Safety Fairs. The Snyders have become very knowledgeable about police processes and procedures and they both thrive on helping others and serving their community. They represent the very best in citizen volunteers and are outstanding ambassadors for the Department.
